  River  
 

The rivers of the Madhya Pradesh Flow in all the directions, the north flowing rivers are the Chambal, Betwa, Ken and Son. These are the rivers of the Ganga river system. The Chambal River is the main southern tributary of the river Yamuna.

It origins from Janapav hills near Mahow. Rivers Kali-Sindh, Parvati, Sindh are the tributaries of river Yamuna is the Betwa, which drains the parts of the Guna and Sagar districts. River Son origins from Amarkantak in Shahdol district and flows towards north and meets the river Ganga near Patna.  

The South flowing rivers are of the Godavari river system, among them are the river Indravati, Sabari and Banganga. The river Indravati flows from east to west in the middle of the Bastar district and forms the south
-western boundary of the Bastar district. The Balaghat, Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh are drained by the river Banaganga and its tributaries –the vardha and the Pench.  

The eastern part of Madhya Pradesh is drained by the river Mahanadi. The Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, Raigarh and Surguja districts of the Chhatisgarh are the drainage basin of the river Mahanadi. The river mahanadi originates from the Sihawa in the Raipur district. Rivers Seonath, Kharum, Pairi, Hasdo, Mand are among important tributaries of the river Mahanadi.
 

The slope of the river Narmada and the Tapti is in the west. The river Narmada flows in a narrow valley. The river forms Dhuwandhar fall at Bheraghat near Jabalpur. The river is a holy river of western Madhya Pradesh. The river Hiran, Barna, Barnar, Dudhi, Tawa are the tributaries of the river Narmada. The river Tapti originates from Multi near Betul and flows east to west parallel to the river Narmada and falls in the Gulf of Khambhat (Arabia Sea).
