Madhya Pradesh
is the second richest state after Bihar regarding its Mineral
resources. About 50 Manganese, 44% Bauxite, 35 percent Coal
and 30 percent of Iron ore of India is found only in Madhya
Pradesh. The state produces minerals worth Rs. 2,360 crore -
about 25 percent of the minerals revenue of India.
Madhya Pradesh has approximately 700 crore tonnes of Iron ore
reserves, in which the Iron content is more than 60%. The Iron
ore occurs mainly in Dalli-Rajhara of Durg district, Bailadila
and Rawghat hills of Bastar district. Other iron ore reserves
are found in the Jabalpur, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Surguja, Mandla
and Balaghat districts.
Big reserves of Manganeses are found in Balaghat and
Chhindwara districts. It is also found in Jabalpur and Jhabua
districts.
The state produces about 44% of bauxite of India. It contains
50 to 65% Aluminium. Bilaspur district (Korba region) Jabalpur
district (Katni region), Shahdol district (Amarkantak region)
are important Bauxite producing districts in the State.
Rich Coal reserves are found in the Tatapani, Ramkola, Jhimile,
Sonhat, Jhagrakhand, Kurasia, Chirmiri and Bishrampur in the
Surguja districts; Korba region in Bilaspur district; Kanhan
valley and Pench valley in the Betul and the Chhindwara
districts.
Among the other minerals found in the Madhya Pradesh are –Mica
(Gwalior and Raigarh district), Diamond (Panna district), Clay
(Gwalior district), Limestone (Raipur, Bilaspur, Satna, Rewa,
Jabalpur, Bastar, Durg, Gwalior and Morena districts),
Dolomite (Chhattisgarh and Baghelkhand region), Copper (Balaghat
district), Tin (Bastar districts) and Marble (Jabalpur and
Gwalior districts) etc. |

Bhilai Steel Plant is the major mineral based
industry in the state. Banmore (Morena district), Kaimore (Jabalpur),
Maihar and Satna (Satna), Jamul (Durg), Tilda, Mandhar, Baloda Bazaar
and Bhatapara (Raipur), Akaltara (Bilaspur) and Neemach (Mandsaur) are
major centres of Cement industry. The Bharat Aluminium Company (Balco)
at Korba (Bilaspur district) is the leading centre of Aluminium
industries.
