  The Flora  
 

The forests cover 1,55,414.27 square kilometres, about 35.07% of the geographical area of Madhya Pradesh. 53.52% of these forests is reserved forest, 42.27% is protected forest and 4.21% is unclassified forest. More than 50% area of Bastar and Sarguja district is under forest. More than 40% of the Balaghat, Bilaspur and East Nimar districts is forested. Areas around Ujjain district are lacking in the forest cover, only about 10% of this part is under forests.

 
 

Mansoon forests are found in areas having more than 125 cm rainfall and thorn forest are found in the areas having less than 75 cm less than rainfall. The area under the teak forests in the state is about 31000 square kilometres (20% of the total forested area) and the Sal forests are about 38,000 square kilometre (24% of the total area). The teak forest is found in Hoshangabad, Sagar, Jabalpur, Mandla and Bastar districts, while the Sal forest are found in the Balaghat, Raipur, Mandla, Bastar, Rajgadh, Sarguja, Sidhi and Shahdol districts. About 1659 cubic meter timber is produced from these forests annually, out of which 42% is produced as timber and remaining 58% is fuel wood. About 60% Tendu leaf of India is produced in Madhya Pradesh. Raipur, Bilaspur, Bastar, Sarguja, Shahdol. Sidhi, Rewa, Sagar, Jabalpur districts produce most of the Tendu leaf.

 
  Forest produced based Industries  
 

The important forest produce based industries are Paper Industry (Nepa Nagar, East Nimar, Amlai, Shahdol). Bidi industry (Jabalpur, Sagar, Damoh, Raipur district), Saw Mill Industry (Jabalpur, Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Mandla and Chhindwara districts).

 
  The Fauna  
 

The important wild life National Parks in Madhya Pradesh are – Madhav National Park (Shivpuri district), The Kanha Kisli National Park (Mandla Districts), and the Bandhavgarh National Park (Shahdol district). Tiger is the main wild animal in these national parks. The Bandhavgarh is famous for white tiger in the world.
